Located across from the Mineral Springs Park Pavilion, The Miller Center engages adults 50+ in active life through active living! Drop by the center to meet with friends and make new ones too! Feel active and youthful when participating in the various activities and events offered here. There is always a friendly face to greet you as you enter. Once inside, join friends for a class or one of many games; express yourself through woodcarving and crafts; maintain a healthy body, mind and spirit through exercise classes; or hop on the Miller Center bus for an adventurous day trip. It’s baseball! It’s darts! No! It’s Dartball! A baseball dart game is played on a special dartboard with baseball-themed adaptations.

Cards or Dominoes, Scrabble, Mah-Jongg, or Dice? Join us for fun and refreshments, laughter, and prizes. It’s all on Game Day!

Mah-Jongg
Mahjongg is a game of skill with elements of luck, originating in China over two thousand years ago, and has recently gained popularity in the US. This game is similar to rummy, however, played with tiles instead of cards. Come learn or practice your Mah-Jongg skills. Beginners welcome!

Learn
AARP Smart Driver Course
This driver safety program is offered to individuals 50 and older at the Miller Center in cooperation with AARP. This 2–day program includes the Rules of the Road, as well as skills and techniques for safe driving. Learn the current laws and rules of Illinois. State Law requires insurance companies to offer a premium reduction to those 55 and older who complete this accident prevention course, which is offered three times per year.

Computer Lab
Drop in to surf the web or connect with friends and family via email and social media. The Miller Center Computer Lab is open to the public. Printing is available for a nominal fee. The Miller Center Computer Lab is sponsored by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes.
**Guidelines Enforced**: Technology protection measures, in the form of filters, are installed on all Miller Center public computers. Miller Center patrons must use the Internet within the guidelines of acceptable use.

Digital Literacy
Through a partnership with the Heart of Illinois Adult Literacy Center and a grant from the AARP Foundation Digital Skills Ready@50+, we can offer computer classes (FREE of Charge) to our 50+ population.

Craft& Conversation
Transform your ideas through craft work. Whatever you dare to imagine creating, Miller Center encourages you to make it happen! So come and try something new. Unleash your inner artist, learn a new skill and have some fun. Janet has some crafts planned but you can also do your own thing!
*The last Wednesday of each month is a scrapbooking & card making day! We have been gifted paper, stickers, and tools. You are welcome to come in and work on paper projects!

Lapidary Workshop
Lapidary is the art of polishing and cutting stones. We have very talented leaders and the necessary equipment to make some beautiful items. We meet in the Woodshop, enter through the west doors.

Make & Take Craft Classes
Unique small group craft instruction with a variety of supplies and options provided, so that you will be able to create one-of-a-kind gifts for family, friends, or yourself. Join us for fun, informal classes at the Miller Center.

Quilt Group
Work on your own project while you visit and get ideas from other quilters in this Friday morning quilting group. You may bring your own machine or do handwork. We have plenty of space to spread out. Our friends also make Linus Blankets (fleece blankets for children in the hospital), and you are welcome to come make those too!

Woodcarving Shop
Carve simple figures or your own one-of-a-kind projects. Get tips and ideas from other woodcarvers. They are always willing to help out with your designs or give a little tutorial! This specialized art form is both fun and relaxing. Beginners and advanced carvers welcome! Tools are available for use during shop hours.

Move
Exercise with Annie
Improve circulation, loosen joints, improve balance, core strength, and much, much more. Exercise while having fun and making friends! Balance, coordination, flexibility, agility, and energy may be improved! Low-impact standing and/or Chair exercises for all fitness levels. Not only will you get exercise, but you’ll make friends and have fun too!

LINE DANCE Lessons
The Physical Benefits of dance can’t be understated. It’s an accessible art form and physical activity that’s available to all ages whether you’re a newbie or a pro. For all who dance, IMPROVED – heart health, muscular strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, bone density, increased endurance & stamina are all physical benefits that can help keep you active longer. Come join us for fun, exercise, and makes some new friends!

Book Club
Book Lovers meet every other month for book discussions hosted by the Pekin Public Library at the Miller Center. Books are distributed at the Miller Center one month before the meeting date.

Bottle Collector’s Club
Calling all Antique Bottle Collectors! Members meet monthly to showcase a variety of antiques and other collectibles.

Garden Club
The Pekin Garden Club meets on the 1st Monday of each month (March – December) at 6 p.m. Most of the meetings are at the Miller Center but we do occasionally meet other places. We usually have a speaker at our meetings, we always have fun! We always welcome new members – stop in and see what we’re about!

RIDE Transportation Service
Need a ride? Let the Miller Center pick you up! Pekin residents 50 and older can call to schedule a ride for destinations in Pekin and the surrounding areas. Medical appointments are our priority, but we also schedule rides to places such as the grocery store, bank, or hair salons when space is available. We will also bring you to the Miller Center!

Special Events
Power of Age – Monthly lunch and learn expo
The Power of Age Expo is a program designed to touch on topics that are of interest to our patrons. Each Expo features a scheduled speaker, a lunch sponsor, and multiple local agencies on site to showcase their services. The doors open at 10:30 am, lunch is served while you listen to the speaker, then there is time after lunch to check out the vendors and ask questions. This is a free event, but you must register in advance as seating is limited.

Line dance party – MONTHLY EVENT
Dance the night away with your favorite line dances! Fun for all ages. We have dancers of all levels dancing to some great music. Dancing is enjoyable for both dancers and spectators. Some attend just to watch for a night of entertainment. Incredible for a friend’s night out, so get your friends together for an evening of fun.
Dates and Times: 1st Saturday of each Month, 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
Cost: $7 – Coffee, Tea, Water, and Popcorn included!
Also includes 1 door prize ticket for our drawing.
Euchre party – MONTHLY EVENT
I hope you are all “Set” for a fun night of Euchre. You can “Go Alone” or bring some friends. Nothing will “Trump” a fun night of cards. Miller Center is now holding this event every month! We have the McNaughton Lounge open for Euchre during our monthly Line Dance Party. Our Euchre Players have been very pleased with this event. You get to enjoy a pleasant, low-level background music while you play cards. We have had great player turnout. Join the fun!

The Center for Youth & Family Solutions offers an outreach program called New Day Senior Services, which provides support to seniors in Peoria, Tazewell, and Fulton Counties. They will help identify available services and resources for you, such as:

Dementia Caregiver Support Group
Build a support system with people who understand. Alzheimer’s Association support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for people living with dementia and their care partners to:
- Develop a support system
- Exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions
- Talk through issues and ways of coping
- Share feelings, needs, and concerns
- Learn about community resources

Illinois 211 for Health and Human Services
211 is an easy-to-remember telephone number assigned by the Federal Communications Commission to streamline access to health and human services.
211 is available 24 hours a day to connect residents to a wide variety of human services and social services across the state.
If someone needs information or referral services but has little to no prior knowledge or experience, dialing 211 is a simpler option than other choices. Once the person dials 211, a professional information and Referral Specialist will then either refer or connect that caller to the correct agency based on the services needed.
Callers to 211 can receive live assistance with needs such as food, shelter, counseling, income support, employment, healthcare, and services for specialized populations, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, among others.
All calls are FREE, anonymous, and confidential.

Let the Miller Center Pick You Up!
Pekin residents 50 and older can call to schedule a ride for destinations in Pekin and the surrounding areas. Medical appointments take precedence. Wheelchair transportation is available upon request. This service is made available in part through the Pekin Park District, Pekin United Way, fundraising events, and rider donations. “In-town” suggested donation is $5. “Out-of-town” suggested donation is $15. Wheelchair transport suggested donation is $30. No one is turned away for inability to pay.
